Voting

Hi,

I was on another server prior to switching to this one and would like to suggest something handy from the other shard. How about implementing the command .vote into the game. Command can be used once per day and would automatically send you to the website where you would vote for this shard. In the login message add something like " Please remember to vote once per day!" That way it would be easier and very simple for the players to vote for this shard. The other shard gave players 2,500 gold points every time they would use the command but that's not necessary.

Just a thought

i like the idea of having an ingame command to take me straight to the voting webpage. If its not to complicated i would love to see this implemented. Not sure as to though I would implement a reward for vote but a great idea if you ask me

Thanks for the suggestion for a vote command. I am not sure how this would work, as there is not one voting website, but seven we currently subscribe to. We could randomly pick from one of the seven sites, but it is best if one votes on all seven sites each day to keep WP high in the standings. Or would you think a link which took you to the WP homepage (where the voting links are) would be sufficient? That would be doable.

As far as giving a reward in game for voting, that would be a violation of the agreements with many of the voting sites. They require that votes be of a persons free will, and not "bought" or "induced".

Concerning a reminder at login, it already does say to vote at login, plus there is a reminder every 15 minutes when the shard saves which says "Remember to vote for Whispering Pines".

See you on the shard,

I think on the other shard they only used one site for voting so that probably made it easier.

How about a section somewhere up by home, history, forums...etc. titled vote or something and under that category place links to voting websites, then implement a command that opens the main page and the "vote" category.

It would be nice though to somehow make it into a one simple action as typing .vote . More players would do it since it would take them less time.

Lol or make it really complex

Write 7 scripts (perl, sql, etc... whatever it takes) for the websites that will simplify everything into one action per site. Basically once a player clicks on that one link it will activate the script to go to the 7 websites and automatically vote for the player on all 7 sites. Meanwhile all the player would have to do it type .vote ingame, a browser window would open to a page where the link for the script activator is, press vote and done. Something like that :)

All the voting links are in a column on the right hand side of the home page. They already have their own place on the website. Would you like to see the [vote command open the website to this location?

Nice idea, except that several of the sites use CAPTCHA verification to defeat scripts, and one moves the vote button around to defeat scripts.

How hard is it really to take 10 seconds on the home page (there is a webstone at BB even), click the vote links and vote. In the end, its for the players benefit, as it draws more players for you to play and interact with.

Just noticed the CAPTCHA... Well it's not hard but a little time consuming. I just went through all the sites voting for this shard and it's easy but not something I would want to do every day. I want to vote but going to 7 sites and pressing vote, even though easy, takes time out of my day that I would rather spend playing the game or well usually work or school. If there was an ingame command though, typing .vote would only take a second so doing this every day would become automatic every time a player logs in.

SlickBlade, may I ask how you found Whispering Pines? Was it on one of these sites? Did you base your choice to play here on our ranking, or on our description, or both?

I don't remember which site I was looking on, I think ultima100 something. This shard was passed the top 5 but the main reason I chose this shard is because it sounded very similar to peacecountyrealm, mostly because both were UOML and non PVP. I like playing on smaller shards better because you can actually connect with other players and get to know one another rather joining an already established server with 100+ clients where everyone already seems to have their own clicks...

So I guess I went mostly with the description. However when choosing usually shard below top 10 don't receive a lot of attention, atleast not from me :| .

We (staff) vote all we can, but we cant do all by ourselves. The shard needs it players to take the time to vote (it doesn't take long). If the players before you had not voted, we would not have been ranked where we were, and would not have gotten any attention from you. Even if you only vote at a couple of sites each day, that is better than not voting at all.

I understand. The suggestion was just to simplify voting into one action. If it's too much work I understand, just thought the .vote implementation is a good idea to get more player's to vote and on regular bases.
